Philly Hiking

Welcome to Philly Hiking! I'm Lori Litchman, the author of 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Philadelphia. Here at Philly Hiking I blog about different hikes that are featured in the book. I also offer some hiking tips and gear recommendations, in addition to hiking basics and ways to keep safe.

I wish I could take credit for coming up with the idea of writing a collection of guide books featuring hiking trails around major metropolitan areas of the country. Alas, it wasn’t my idea. Menasha Ridge Press is an imprint of AdventureKEEN publishing, and they are the creators of the 60/60 series. That’s where I come in! I’m one of their authors. Here’s a little about me. 

 

Lori Litchman is an outdoor writer who focuses on nature and the outdoors. She’s a lifelong Pennsylvanian, growing up in the Poconos before settling in Philadelphia after college. Litchman worked in television and print media, where she won 1st place in a statewide journalism competition for her coverage of Megan’s Law. She was a reporter for The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly, where she covered the state appellate courts. She’s published several personal and academic essays and one other book, A Philadelphia Story: Founders and Famous Families from the City of Brotherly Love. She’s a former high school teacher. One of her proudest publications is a craft essay on the transition of American nature writing to environmental writing in The Writer’s Chronicle. She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goucher College. 

 

I've lived in Philadelphia for more than 30 years, and I've done all the hikes in the book numerous times. I'm always looking for new places to check out, so if there's a place you love to hike and it's it not in 60 Hikes, send me a email and I'll check it out.
